For Restaurants and Bars:
1. Beer Selection: A potential 5/5. We rate the joint's selection of beers. Obviously, the more the merrier - but we make sure to judge the quality alongside the quantity. We're interested in domestic craft beer as well as good foreign beers.
2. Beer Centricity: A potential 5/5. Here we rate how "beer-centric" the joint is. We like to see if the places are centered around beer or if beer is just a passing fancy. Places that embody beer history and culture are usually winners for us.
3. Service: A potential 5/5. This is a simple rating scale judging the service of the restaurant or bar we go to. Though we're focused on beer, we understand the importance of good hospitality in a night out with friends.
4. Beer IQ: A potential 5/5. Judging server knowledge is important to us. We know a place is great when its servers are well-educated in beer and can point a customer in the right direction.
5. Atmosphere: A potential 5/5. Making sure the atmosphere is welcoming is important. The more fun, friendly, inclusive, and unique a joint is, the higher it will rate. Any anomalies will be discussed as well (i.e. college bar, sports bar, music-centered, etc.)
6. Price: We rate price according the the Yelp scale. A meal for us constitutes two beers and an entrée:
$ - Cheap, under $10
$$ - Moderate, $11-$20
$$$ - Above Average, $21-$30
$$$ - Above Average, $21-$30
$$$$ - Pricey, $31-$60
$$$$$ - Splurge, $61 and over
